William Hargrove

January 22, 1957 — September 2, 2024

Dr. William Thomas Hargrove, Jr., OD, of Flowery Branch Georgia, formerly of Columbus Georgia, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024. Born January 22, 1957 in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, he was the son of Alberta Bulloch Hargrove and the late CW4 (Retired) Willam T. Hargrove, Sr. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marla Hargrove; his mother, Alberta Hargrove; sisters, Reverend Cheryl (Calvin) Barnes and COL (Retired) Gwen Ruff; brother, Timothy J. Hargrove; three sons, Jerell Hargrove, Joshua Hargrove and Justin (Krystal) Hargrove; grandson Jacob Hargrove, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles and aunts.

William was a 1980 graduate of Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta Georgia and was commissioned as a Signal Corps Officer in the United States Army where he served honorably for five years, achieving the rank of Captain. During his military career, he exemplified leadership and a strong commitment to service by mentoring young soldiers and being responsible for their health, welfare and training. He further matriculated at the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis Tennessee where he received his Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree, with the recognition of Magna Cum Laude in May 1990. He then went on to have a stellar 18-year career as a licensed practitioner in the eyecare field and associated care.

William was a distinguished member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. (Alpha Phi Chapter, 1978), a self-taught guitarist, writer and poet and he truly loved the Lord. As an ordained minister, he was ever ready to share the Gospel and always eager to be of service others and to help those in need. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him and loved him dearly. While we grieve his loss, we find comfort in knowing that his love and generous spirit will live on in the countless lives he touched.
