Sylvia Rena Shiflet

November 14, 1955 — May 20, 2023

Sylvia RENA GRIFFETH was born November 14, 1955, to dotting parents Wade and Jewel Griffeth in Athens, Georgia.

SHE attended Southside Elementary School, Comer, GA, and Graduated from Madison County High School in 1973. She continued her educational journey after high school and graduate from Fort Valley College in Fort Valley, GA with a degree in Home Economics. She obtained a masters degree from Piedmont College.

RENA accepted Christ at an early age joining The Colbert Grove Baptist Church in Colbert, GA.

SHE was united in Holy matrimony to Phillip Shiflet on December 17, 1977. Together they expanded their family having two children-Phillip Jawade and Preston Jeremy.

SHE was employed by the Madison County Board of Education and worked at:

Colbert Elementary School, Colbert, GA

Northside Middle School, Danielsville, GA

Madison County Middle School, Danielsville, GA, and later in the new middle school in Comer, GA.

SHE retired in 2014, after many years of service in the Madison County School System.

RENA enjoyed singing in the Colbert Grove Church Choir and on the Praise Team. She was a dedicated member of the Deaconess Committee and the newly formed Colbert Grove Impact Committee. She was a member of the family social group, Diamonds& Pearls. She was also a dedicated member of NWBA #1 3rd District Women’s Association.

SHE loved traveling with the family and enjoyed the yearly family reunion.

RENA was proceeded in death by her parents Wade and Jewel Griffeth, and in-laws Lavern Shiflet, Jeffey Stowers, and Darius Stowers.

SHE leaves to cherish her memories her Husband Phillip Shiflet Neese Community: her children; Phillip (Kesha) Shiflet of Jonesboro, GA, Preston(Cecilia) Shiflet of IIa, GA, her sister: Sonja Romesa (Donald) Vestal of Arlington, Texas: seven grandchildren, Zahmerius, Zakhari, Philip, Page, Z’layah, Zayden, and Zuri; six Aunts: Lizzie Reed, Ora Bell Bailey, Annas Mathis, Gwen (Robert) Wright, Peggy Freeman, and Sara Freeman: one uncle Leroy Freeman: Mother-in-law, Sally Rucker: sisters-in-law Tracy (Calvin) Stowers, Ann Stowers, Phyllis (Jimmy) Flack and Vanessa Rucker and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

SYLVIA RENA SHIFLET will be missed and remembered by all who knew her.
