Margaret Wise Smith, born on July 17, 1934, in Oglethorpe, Georgia, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2024, in Athens, Georgia, at the age of 90.
Margaret was a woman of remarkable character, known for her generosity, love, kindness, compassion, and humor.
A devoted mother, Margaret is survived by her three children: Brenda (husband Jimmy), Alan, and Frank. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Floyd Smith, and her son, Rick Smith. Margaret's legacy extends through her grandchildren: Nicko, Tekel (wife Toya), Mika (husband Rigo), Montis, Monjaye (wife Yolanda), Akeem (wife Kimberly), Berdell (wife Alexis), Aneeka, Carley, and Darretta, and many more great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her cherished sister, Shirley, a host of cousins, nieces , and friends that she loved dearly.
Margaret’s faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Services to honor Margaret’s life will be held on January 4, 2025, at Gardenview Funeral Home in Athens, Georgia, at 11 a.m.
